Date and Time: September 20. 2024 from 12:00-1:30 pm HST
The Center for Philippine Studies, in collaboration with UH Manoa, University of the Philippines and Alumni Association of Hawaii, is organizing an event on “FERDINAND MARCOS II AND THE NORMALIZATION OF OLIGARCHIC POLITICS” on September 20. 2024 from 12:00-1:30 pm HST.
ABSTRACT
How do we understand the return of the Marcoses to power? Were we all just too naive or were we hoodwinked by the ruling elite? What happened to the so-called “Spirit of EDSA” that was supposed to prevent such a restoration? This talk suggests several possible explanations behind these dramatic changes in Philippine politics. By Patricio N. Abinales, PhD Professor of Asian Studies, University of Hawaii at Manoa.
