Subtitling Project
CSEAS launched a Southeast Asian film subtitling and translation course at UH Mānoa in 2007. The course created by former CSEAS associate director Paul Rausch and taught by John McGlynn (Lontar Foundation – Jakarta) trained students with advanced Southeast Asian language skills to translate and subtitle Southeast Asian films.
Subtitled and translated films and tv shows from this project are now housed in Southeast Asia Digital Library. As for the Vietnamese Cinema, it is available at the UH Mānoa Library. To access the complete list of films with a synopsis, click here

Bringing Vietnamese Cinema to global audiences
We are pleased to announce the completion of Southeast Asian film project led by the Center Southeast Asian Studies. Recently, in partnership with Vietnam Film Institute in Hanoi, more than 70 classic Vietnamese feature films have been digitized and subtitled in English. Vietnamese Cinema for Libraries Catalog
A landmark Southeast Asia film subtitling project has reached completion.
