These grants fund dissertation research in Indonesia, helping students complete their fieldwork and associated research expenses.

General Eligibility

Applicants must:

  • Be Indonesian citizens and not permanent residents of the United States
  • Be currently enrolled in a doctoral program (PhD) in the U.S.
  • Demonstrate strong preparation and a clear commitment to their chosen field
  • Show a strong commitment to returning to Indonesia upon completion of the doctoral program
  • Demonstrate that the proposed research in Indonesia is realistically achievable within the planned time frame

Submission Requirements

A complete application typically includes:

  • Online scholarship application (AICEF form only)
  • Most recent official transcript of grades (sent by the institution)
  • Letter of recommendation from the faculty advisor (on university letterhead, sent directly or via the system)
  • Copy of passport front page
  • Copy of passport visa (J-1 or F-1)
  • Enrollment verification confirming:
    • Good academic standing
    • Completion of all PhD requirements except the dissertation

Applicants are also asked to upload U.S. immigration documents (current I-20 and visa) and provide an estimate of expenses and resources for the research period in Indonesia, covering only the time needed for the proposed travel and research.
