“Wika, Tula, at Kundiman” (Language, Poetry, and Love Song) by Michael M. Coroza, PhD

We are very fortunate enough to have a visiting lecturer next week, all the way from the Philippines, Professor Michael Coroza. 

A multi-awarded poet, essayist, literary translator, and editor, he received the Southeast Asia Write Award (S.E.A.Write) from the Royalty of Thailand in 2007 and the Ani ng Dangal (Harvest of Honor) Award from the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) of the Republic of the Philippines in 2009. He has won major prizes for his poems, essays, and stories for children. He is now on his third term as Chair of the Unyon ng mga Manunulat sa Pilipinas (UMPIL, or the Writers Union of the Philippines). For two terms, 2017 – 2019 and 2020 – 2022, he served as Head of the National Committee on Language and Translation (NCLT) of the Sub-commission on Cultural Dissemination of the NCCA.
