Precis

This presentation tries to figure out how divergent features of contemporary Philippine politics seem to blend seamlessly and unproblematically in the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte.

Speaker Bio

Dr. Patricio N. Abinales is a professor at the School of Pacific and Asian Studies, UH Mānoa. He grew up in a frontier  town, which is 141.83 miles from President Duterte’s hometown, Davao City. The second and expanded edition of the book State and Society in the Philippines that he co-authored with Dr. Donna J. Amoroso is coming out in the Fall.
