Abstract:

Thailand has seen massive pro-democracy demonstrations in the last year calling for constitutional reform. In Myanmar, a military coup has resulted in mass anti-coup demonstrations all over the country calling for true democracy. This conversation will dive into pro-democracy movements in Thailand and Myanmar.

In this session, Anna Lawattanatrakul and Thinzar Shunlei Yi will be joining us.

Anna Lawattanatrakul is an assistant editor for Prachatai English, a Bangkok-based online newspaper covering political and social issues in Thailand. Anna has covered stories about gender discrimination issues, LGBTQ rights, and indigenous rights. She has also been covering the 2020 pro-democracy protests in Thailand.

Thinzar Shunlei Yi is an award-winning activist and advocacy coordinator for the Action Committee for Democracy Development. She also hosts the Under 30 Dialogue at Mizzima TV.

All Southeast Asians who are concerned about democracy in the region are welcome to join!
