New Coordinator of the UHM Filipino Language and Culture Program


We are pleased to announce that Dr. Jayson Parba is now the new coordinator of the University of Hawai’i at Manoa Filipino Language and Culture Program! He ran unopposed and garnered 100% yes votes from the Filipino program faculty. Congratulations, Dr. Parba!

Dr. Parba holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Second Language Studies from the Department of Second Language Studies at the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa. His primary focus in both research and teaching is social justice in education. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education major in English (cum laude) and a Master of Arts in English from Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan in the Philippines.

He is a dedicated scholar of heritage language learning, an outstanding translator and a well-loved educator.

His literary work written in the Cebuano language has received numerous awards. Some of his literary works were published in Dagmay: The Literary Journal of Davao Writers Guild and in Carayan Journal of Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan. He was a creative writing fellow in Davao, Iligan, and Iyas creative writing workshops.
