It’s post 1975 Viet Nam and Tai is one of the many southern Vietnamese soldiers that are being relocated after the war. The land he is given is next to a minefield that hasn’t been cleared yet. Because he is a former southern soldier he is denied normal work. Tai befriends a northern soldier who defuses mines and gathers abandoned barbed wire to pay for his alcohol. This soldier teaches Tai how to clear landmines. In addition to Tai’s challenges with making a living, he married during the war and now has two wives. Both his way of making a living and his personal life are in violation of the law and we get to see if Tai will find a way to correct his life.

The screenplay is based upon the life story of Ngo Duc Nhat who cleared more than 2,000 landmines in a field where even seasoned mine removing crews suffered heavy casualties.

This film was translated by students of the ASAN 491 class on Southeast Asian Cinema Subtitling at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa.
