March 11, 2016 @ 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM

This talk by William Chapman will accompany the Fragments & Empire exhibition at the John Young Museum. It will explore the roles that monumental remains have played in the histories of Southeast Asia’s modern nations. The lecture will complement the Fragments & Empire exhibition by highlighting the relationship between the art and architectural remains of the Angkor Empire and issues of heritage and preservation in Cambodia and Thailand. The topic of this lecture is elaborated upon in William Chapman’s A Heritage of Ruins: The Ancient Sites of Southeast Asia and Their Conservation (2013).
