Rừng Đen (Black Forest) tells the story of a family of woodcutters involved in illegal logging operations. Interwoven with intense family drama involving a love triangle that includes the father, his lover, and his son is the ominous presence of the spirit of the forest, which does not look kindly on the felling of its ancient trees. Rừng Đen, a cautionary tale of the ravages of deforestation in Viet Nam, was considered for nomination as the Vietnamese entry to the Academy Awards Best Foreign Film category in 2008.
