Philippines Update: a Journalist’s View from the Ground with Sunshine Linchauco de Leon

The Philippines has been much in the news of late, from President Rodrigo Duterte’s bloody anti-drug campaign and the recent Islamist militant siege and imposition of martial law in the country’s south to the shooting rampage at a Manila casino and renewed tensions over disputed territory in the South China Sea.

Manila-based journalist and documentary filmmaker Sunshine Lichauco de Leon will lead an informal, off-the-record discussion on recent developments in the country from a first-hand perspective.

Ms. Lichauco de Leon has reported for a wide range of international media, including the BBC, CNN, NBC News,The Guardian, The Los Angeles Times,Time, USA Today and more. She has also worked as a local producer for foreign documentary teams and has just produced her own first independent, award-winning -documentary, Curiosity, Adventure and Love, about her adventurous American grandmother’s journey to the Philippines in the 1930s and the history she’s witnessed there.
