Tigapagi’s harmony-laden folk is made to be played during dusk and dawns. Evoking the nostalgic charm of olden days Indonesia, “Roekmana’s Repertoire” is an accomplished album filled with deceptively complex arrangements and boisterous production.

The band’s acoustic sultriness brings to mind 1960s and 70s classic American pop filtered through a very-Indonesian lens. But the band is much more than “retro” — there is sensitivity in the band’s vocal flourishes and finger plucked strings that feels very now. This repertoire feels like it was made by forgotten oldies, busking down the bustling alleys of a vibrant metropolis, for whom time stands still and, yet, it sounds so beautifully sad.
