A Talk by Dr. Loretta Chen, Director, Creative and Business Development of The Activation Group, Singapore
Monday, April 13, 2015
12:00 – 1:30pm
Tokioka Room, Moore Hall 319
Dr. Loretta Chen, one of Asia’s most respected lecturers and a prolific theatre director, presents intriguing vignettes of working in Singapore as a thought leader, media maverick and cultural provocateur. This talk examines the intricacies and idiosyncrasies of censorship in the Confucianist island-state that posits to market itself as a First World democracy whilst espousing regressive censorship laws and regulations. Dr. Chen’s signature no-holds barred interactive seminars enable an intimate understanding of the site/sight of theatre as a form of release and political advocacy.
A frequent speaker at global conferences on Performance, Arts, Media, Leadership and Entrepreneurship, Loretta is also adjunct faculty in National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological Institute, Lasalle-College of the Arts, Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, University of Southern Maine and a Visiting Professor at University of Hawaiʻi. She was also the Artist in Residence at the University of Toronto. She is the best-selling author of Woman on Top: The Art of Smashing Stereotypes and Breaking All the Rules, published by Marshall Cavendish and is a frequent contributor to leading lifestyle and travel magazines.
