Mystical Poetry Night

The Islamic Society at the University of Hawaii (ISUH) is teaming up with Hillel-Hawaii and the East West Center Participants Association (EWCPA) to host our 4th annual Mystical Poetry Night on the evening of Friday, March 13, 2015!

We are currently looking for performers to volunteer to recite/perform a poem of their choice at our event. The recitation may be of a pre-existing poem written by a poet of your choice (for example: Rumi, William Blake, Hafez, Bulleh Shah, etc), although we also encourage original poems which you may have written yourself! Keep in mind however that the poem must have a mystical/spiritual element to it.

While the event will focus on poetry, we are excited to announce that we are opening up the platform this year to include additional art forms such as folk songs, musical performances, skits, etc. We hope you get creative and decide to take advantage of this opportunity!

We encourage performances from all languages and all cultural/religious backgrounds.

If you are interested, please email us at with the following information:

1) Your contact info (Name, phone number)

2) Your performance type (e.g. poem, song, skit, etc.)

3) The text of the poem, song, skit, etc. you wish to recite/perform

4) The English translation of the text (if the original is in a different language)

5) The author of the text

The deadline to submit is Monday, February 23, 2015.

You do not need to be a student at UH or of any particular religious affiliation to perform at our event.

Don’t be scared, your performance will be a great contribution! Thank you so much for your time, feel free to email us with any questions, and we look forward to hearing from you guys!
